Two-Door-Cinema-Club-Performs

After one listen to Tourist History, the debut album from Northern Ireland’s Two Door Cinema Club, you will agree, these short, sharp songs with undeniable catchy melodies will prick your ears (and have you humming and/or singing along). Oh, and I think you might find it pretty interesting that when the band formed, they had mutual admiration for At The Drive In, The Mars Volta and Biffy Clyro, but the record doesn’t lean that way.

Click through to check out the stories behind and performances of “Undercover Martyn,” “I Can Talk,” “Cigarettes In The Theatre” and “Something Good Can Work” in the Last.fm Discover studio.

Band members Alex Trimble, Kevin Baird and Sam Halliday spent some quality time in our studio recently while in NYC, where they would play to an ecstatic crowd at The Bowery Ballroom later that night. Formed in 2007, after meeting in Bangor Grammar School, the next step would be sharing musical ideas in a garage. Soon after, arresting songs like “This Is The Life” and “Come Back Home” were born.

They teamed up with producer Eliot James, and it marked the first time the guys had worked long-term with another person in the studio. That studio was Eastcote Studios in London, England, (where for the first week or so, they were up above the studio where Mark Ronson was working with Duran Duran). After a tour of the U.K. in September, the band is set to head back to the U.S. for some dates in October and November.

Great set here, although I prefer it when Kevin plays the xylophone compared to the acoustic bass! Nice set as I reiterate, lovely to listen to.

This is so freaking awesome, my favorite was Something Good can work, that song is so good it hurts and in acoustic version is just heavenly! I love these guys, you’re incredible, sending lots of love from Venezuela!

Definetely one of my favourite bands. I’m listening to them since 4 months or so. I can actually say that there is no song i don’t like from them and not only from “tourist history”. i as sad that new houses and costume party wasn’t in. I can’t wait to finally see them live in Berlin. I can’t wait to turn 18 and get a tattoo on my forearm. how about “words of wisdom” ?
